Cobra Track Club (CTC) is a not-for-profit Track & Field Club. Founded in the year 2000, CTC’s sole purpose is to offer boys and girls (ages 7 to 18) the opportunity to develop skills necessary to perform and excel in local and national track and field competitions.
CTC is sanctioned under the United States Track and Field (USATF) Association and the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). USATF is the cornerstone of world renowned track and field athletes such as Michael Johnson and Marion Jones. These athletes records can be traced back to their youth as up and coming athletes through these two organizations who sponsor Junior Olympic (JO) events. Our organization teaches running and field techniques, endurance, discipline and performance skills to promote and further development expertise as our youth athletes mature and compete in future events.
In our pilot season, 90 percent of our athletes had never participated in track and field events prior to joining CTC. During that year two athletes qualified for the 2nd round USATF JO championships and one athlete the USATF JO regional Championship. At the Commonwealth Games of Virginia the team earned 19 medals, 12 of which were gold.
In our second year of competition, 45 of our athletes qualified for the Association 2nd round; 18 qualified for the Regional round and 3 for the National round of the USATF JO Championships. Again CTC competed in the Commonwealth Games of Virginia and earned 43 medals. As a result of this outstanding accomplishment, 22 of our athletes are qualified to represent the state in the 2003 National State Games being held in Connecticut.
Now in our 3rd year, CTC currently has 36 youth athletes (in 48 events) of which all have advanced to the 2nd round Junior Olympics for USATF and AAU competitions. Should they advance, these athletes will participate in the regional competitions and finally the national Junior Olympic Track and Field Competitions.
